Eyjólfsstaðaskógur (Eyjolfsstadir forrest).

A walk in the woods is considered a real treat in Iceland, with only about 1% of the island covered by a forrest. Eyjolfsstadir farm is a part of forrestry program, where more than 120 hectars (1.200.000 m²) of forrest has been planted since 1990. It also has one of the old and original Birch forrests, that for half a century the Iceland Forrest Service (Skógrækt Ríkisins) has been planting as well as preserving the old forest. There you'll find great hiking trails and a magnificent view over to the Lake Lagarfljót.

Horse Rentals

Close to Eyjolfsstadir, you can find place where you can enjoy riding the famous Icelandic horse (pony).

In Hallormsstaður forrest, you will find a horse rental (near the old school house). There you will find beautiful riding tracks in the most famous forrests in Iceland between the mountains and the beautiful lake of Lagarfljot.

In direction to Egilsstadir, only few minutes drive you will find the horse rental of Utnyrdingsstadir were you can also experience the rugged nature of the east of Iceland on the back of a horse and with a professional guidance.

Pedal boats on the Lagarfljot lake

In Atlavik (camping site) you can rent pedal boats, rowing boats and canoes and sail on Lake Lagarjót. Atlavik is in Hallormsstadur forrest.

Skriðuklaustur - centre of culture and history

Historical site with the ruins of a 16th century monastery. Cultural Centre in home of the writer Gunnar Gunnarsson, built in 1939. Exhibitions and personal guided tours every day in summer.

Snæfellsstofa - Visitor centre

Visitor and Information Centre for the eastern territory of Vatnajökull National Park. Exhibition about nature and life in the highlands, multimedia and educational activities for children. Souvenir shop on site. Free admission.

Végarður Visitor Centre - Kárahnjukar Hydropower Project

For travellers interested in learning about Kárahnjúkar Hydropower Project or about tourist options in the neighbourhood. Travellers can for instance see in words and pictures how Kárahnjúkar Power Plant was built.
Organized trips into the power station from 10 June to 10 August.

Fishing in Grímsá river

Through the land of Eyjolfsstadir, runs the river Grímsá. At the guesthouse you can buy a license to fish in the river if you have the rod with you.
